The tragic death of singer Amy Winehouse at the age of 27 remains a mystery for now, with officials announcing that the autopsy revealed no exact cause of death, and that they are still awaiting the results of toxicology screenings. With the body officially identified by Winehouse’s parents in London today, coroner Sharon Duff announced in a statement at St. Pancras Coroner’s Court that an official investigation would be launched on October 26.
Winehouse, who had very publicly battled drug and alcohol addiction for years, was found dead at her home in Camden Square on Saturday by a member of her security team. In a statement released this morning, Duff revealed that what is known as a “section 20 post mortem” had been carried out, adding: “The scene was investigated by police and determined to be non-suspicious."
A section 20 post mortem, according to the Hollywood Reporter, means that “there is reasonable cause to suspect that a person has died a violent or unnatural death or in any other way which would require an inquest.” It also indicates that officials intend to enquire further as to the circumstances surrounding the fatality, as confirmed by Coroner Duff’s announcement of the forthcoming investigation.
