Amy Schumer, unfortunately, couldn’t fully focus on her Saturday Night Live hosting duties last week, because her son Gene was simultaneously hospitalized due to a bout of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV). She still did a great job as host, but explained online that she missed some rehearsals due to the medical scares.
“I missed Thursday rehearsals when my son was rushed to ER and admitted for RSV. Shout out to all the parents going through this right now,” Schumer explained, and also mentioned that the SNL crew “couldn’t have been more supportive.”
RSV is another seasonal infection that spreads around flu season, and typically causes cold symptoms with the potential for also triggering bronchitis and pneumonia. With the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic raging, it could have affected flu season in some way as some reports show that seasonal viruses started spreading earlier this year.
SNL is a show that is very demanding to its performers given they only have a week to put something together, but when something important like a medical emergency comes up, it’s great to hear that they are supportive in those cases.
Schumer’s post also showed some cool behind-the-scenes moments from backstage during the filming and rehearsal process for the live sketch series. She took a couple of photos of the row of wigs and bizarre masks she had to wear for various sketches, and one sweet selfie with cast member Bowen Yang.
