Amy Schumer Drops Out Of ‘Barbie’ Movie

Amy Schumer has dropped out of Sony’s live-action Barbie movie.

AMY SCHUMER DROPS FROM BARBIE MOVIE

The split was due to a scheduling conflict. “Sadly, I’m no longer able to commit to Barbie due to scheduling conflicts,” said the actress in a statement. “The film has so much promise, and Sony and Mattel have been great partners. I’m bummed, but look forward to seeing Barbie on the big screen.”

Production on the adaptation of the Mattel toy is expected to start on June 23, and Schumer couldn’t commit because of her work and promotion for her new comedy Snatched, which opens in May. Sony is locked in with Mattel to land its June 29, 2018 release date to keep in line with Mattel’s product cycles.

“We respect and support Amy’s decision,” said a spokesperson for Sony. “We look forward to bringing Barbie to the world and sharing updates on casting and filmmakers soon.” Sony is still searching for a director for the film.

The comedy will be in the same vein as SplashEnchanted, and Big, with its main character getting kicked out of Barbieland for not being perfect enough. Snatched opens in theaters May 12. Watch the trailer below.
