Amy Schumer has been distancing herself from writer Kurt Metzger following his controversial comments on rape – and has suggested that Inside Amy Schumer, the show he wrote for, is no more.
Metzger, who has written for Inside Amy Schumer since 2013 and also counts Horace and Pete and Ugly Americans among his acting credits, has sparked controversy lately over his statements about rape. In his ongoing rant on Facebook, Metzer has been chastising the system for going after Upright Citizens Brigade comic Aaron Glaser, who he believes was painted guilty of rape on scant evidence.
In one of his most inflammatory posts, Metzger wrote, “Don’t f–king complain about the police not helping if you didn’t bother going to the police at all. ‘Why aren’t the rape kits being tested??’ Because instead of actually educating women with useful information on what to do if they are victimized, you blather nonsense about ‘culture’ and then tell them being weak is being strong.”
After Metzger’s remarks started to go viral, Schumer took to Twitter, writing, “I am so saddened and disapointed in Kurt Metzger. He is my friend and a great writer and I couldn’t be more against his recent actions.”
Schumer went on to write, “Kurt does not work for me. He is not a writer on my show. Please stop asking me about it. His words are not mine.” She then suggested that her Comedy Central show Inside Amy Schumer was finished, writing, “I didn’t fire Kurt. He isn’t a writer for my show because we aren’t making the show anymore. There are no writers for it.”I didn’t fire Kurt. He isn’t a writer for my show because we aren’t making the show anymore. There are no writers for it.
Schumer clarified on Thursday that Comedy Central had renewed Inside Amy Schumer for a fifth season and that it could still come to fruition. Essentially, Inside Amy Schumer is on hiatus as Schumer continues her stand up tour, writes and pursues other projects – Doing Standup and focusing on writing more for the next year at least. We are slated for a season 5 but not in the foreseeable future.
