Fans of NBC’s Parks and Recreation will be excited to hear that the show’s two biggest stars – Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman – will be reuniting to the network on a new show, titled The Handmade Project. Poehler and Offerman will both be co-hosting and executive producing the show.
The show, which is an unscripted reality competition, will feature artisans constructing hand-made crafts under several judges’ scrutiny. Each week will focus on a different theme, getting increasingly more difficult as the season progresses. By the end of the season, a champion craftsperson will be crowned.
“I’m thrilled to be celebrating artists who make things by hand, and I’m looking forward to finally conquering my fear of paper mache,” Poehler said in a statement.
“People who make things are my favorite kind of folk. Practical, clever and terrific in a pinch.” Offerman also said in a statement.
“That makes me tickled pink to have a front row seat at this prodigious display of talent, and admiring and cheering on an amazing crop of American makers. Plus, Amy and I have a strong tradition of tomfoolery so let’s see if we don’t have some good fun.”
Offerman is a craftsman himself – much like his character from Parks and Recreation, Ron Swanson.
“Putting the finishing touches on those Christmas presents,” Offerman wrote as a caption to an Instagram post from December. The photo shows him and two others at work in a studio.
NBC has ordered six episodes for the first season of The Handmade Project.
The show is produced by Poehler’s production company, Paper Kite, which produces several scripted television shows including Broad City and Difficult People.
