'American Psycho' Writer Bret Easton Ellis Wants To Adapt '50 Shades Of Grey,' Cast Skarsgard

Novelist and satirist Bret Easton Ellis, 48, the writer of American Psycho and Less Than Zero, who has been called a member of "the literary brat pack," has thrown his hat in to write the film adaptation of the "mommy porn," Twilight-fanfic-inspired book, Fifty Shades of Grey, by author E.L. James.

"I'm putting myself out there to write the movie adaptation of Fifty Shades of Grey," Ellis tweeted to his 292,000 followers on Saturday. "Completely committed to adapting Fifty Shades of Grey," he continued. "This is not a joke. Christian Grey and Ana: potentially great cinematic characters," he wrote.

But there's more. "I think David Cronenberg is a great idea for directing Fifty Shades of Grey and we worked together on American Psycho in its initial phase," Ellis went on, reports USA Today. Though some of Ellis' more elaborative tweets have now been deleted, he reportedly also put in his two cents about who should play Ana and Christian from James' novel.

"The casting of Christian in Fifty Shades of Grey wouldn't be up to me but I have certain actors in mind. And a particular actress for Ana," Ellis wrote, according to the Digital Spy. "Cronenberg and Alexander Skarsgard is a no-brainer. I've seen Alexander naked so many times at the gym that we both attend: perfect casting." As for Ana? "I would love it if we lived in a world where Lena Dunham could be Ana in Fifty Shades of Grey but I don't think we do. I think she's hot."

In his series of tweets, Ellis also happened to mention that other acceptable Christians would include Aaron Johnson, Ryan Gosling and Alex Pettyfer. "More conventional" Anas, he suggested, could be Scarlett Johansson and Kristen Stewart. Ellis revealed that he would be approaching Universal Pictures and its Focus Features division, which already purchased the film rights to Fifty Shades of Grey, this week about adapting the film.

Ellis' American Psycho was adapted into a film starring Christian Bale, Justin Theroux, Josh Lucas, Reese Witherspoon, and Chloe Sevigny in 2000, and Ellis' Less Than Zero was made into a movie in 1987, starring Robert Downey, Jr. in a drug-addled role he would later come to describe as "the ghost of Christmas future."
