Rayvon Owen was once again saved from elimination by Twitter as the Top 5 were revealed on American Idol. Wednesday night’s episode was crucial for the contestants, as only the Top 5 will be going on the Idol tour this year.

Jax Cole

The first artist guaranteed a spot on the tour was rocker chick Jax Cole. She performed a reworked version of Jet’s “Are You Gonna Be My Girl?” – singing “Are You Gonna Be My Guy?” instead.

Jax toned it down for her second performance, singing Dido’s “White Flag” from behind a piano, accompanied only by a cellist.

Nick Fradiani

Nick Fradiani was the next to be declared safe, and he performed Maroon 5’s “Harder to Breathe.” He fumbled a bit with the fast pace of the song, and seemed to either have trouble remembering the lyrics or enunciating properly. Despite the issues, Jennifer Lopez commented that he kept improving, but Keith Urban reminded Nick that his performance style needed work.

For his second song, Nick sang “Maggie May.” This time, J Lo warned him that it might be too similar to his first song and he should definitely consider mixing it up going forward so as not to repeat the same performance over and over again.

Clark Beckham

Clark Beckham was next in the Top 5, and the resident crooner chose to perform The Beatles’ “Yesterday.”

For his second song, Clark mixed it up a bit, changing from a suit into a more casual button down and performing a stripped down and sped up version of Justin Bieber’s “Boyfriend.” The increased tempo wasn’t the best choice, as Henry Connick Jr. said, but it was an original take on the song, and the audience loved it.

Tyanna Jones

Tyanna Jones is the final artist declared safe in the Top 5, leaving Rayvon Owen and Quentin Alexander in the bottom two. Before we get to the bottom two performances, Tyanna performed Miley Cyrus’ “Party in the U.S.A.” The song may have not been the best choice to show off her killer vocals, but Tyanna seemed to be thoroughly enjoying herself on stage, and the crowd loved it.

For her second performance, Tyanna took on Bryan Adams’ “Heaven,” and focused more on her impeccable vocals than working the stage, and it worked.

Quentin Alexander

Finally, Rayvon and Quentin had one last chance to impress viewers, as only one would be saved by Twitter. In a somewhat unusual turn of events, Quentin was forced to perform first both times, which could arguably put him at a disadvantage when it comes to America’s votes.

For his first performance, Quentin sang The Doors’ “Light My Fire.” Quentin gave a sultry performance, and was at ease working the crowd.

For his second performance, Quentin gave his all to Florence + The Machine’s “Shake It Out.” Connick Jr., whether still wanting to rile Quentin up after last week’s awkward fight, or, in fact, not convinced by Quentin’s vocal performance, asked if Quentin would be willing to use autotune in the future. Quentin replied that he would not want to, and the passive-aggressive exchange ended without another blow up.

Rayvon Owen

Rayvon took the stage singing Sam Smith’s “I’m Not the Only One,” which he nailed.

Rayvon struggled a bit on his second performance, singing a pitchy “Go Your Own Way” from Fleetwood Mac. Rayvon may have had some pitch problems, but he nailed a huge high note at the end, and it seemed to win over the judges and the audience.

Rayvon Gets Idol Save

Rayvon has escaped elimination for the past four weeks, and he has earned the Idol save as many times. Last night was no exception, with Rayvon moving on into the Top 5.

The Top 5 will perform next week, and one will be sent home without the option of a last minute save on American Idol Wednesday at 8 p.m. on Fox.
