American Idol's results show on Thursday revealed that country singer Janelle Arthur would be the latest contestant on the talent show to be eliminated.
Arthur, a 23-year-old Tennessee native, sang "When I Call Your Name," by Vince Gil from 1989, for the year she was born, and Dolly Parton's "Dumb Blonde" for her diva song selection. Neither performance managed to receive much praise from the judges, causing Arthur's elimination to come as not much of a surprise.
Going for the save, Arthur sang her inspiring arrangement of "Keep Me Hangin' On" that she performed during American Idol's Motown week. Although it was a noticeable improvement from her performances the previous night, the judges opted not to use their save on the first female finalist who would be departing the show this season.
"I'm sad because I wasn't ready to go," Arthur told Us Weekly after the show. "I was already thinking about songs for next week and I think it would've been really good." And although Wednesday's song selections proved to be her undoing, Arthur says that her favorite moment on American Idol was singing Parton's upbeat single.
"I had so much fun. That was the most fun I had on the stage, mainly because I brought that to life," she said. "That arrangement had been in my head, and just to know two days before that performance, I explained it to them and what came from that is cool."
With Janelle out of the running, the final four remaining Idol-hopefuls are Candace Glover, Angie Miller, Kree Harrison and Amber Holcomb.
American Idol will return Wednesday on Fox at 8/7c.
