American Airlines had a tragedy occur while one of its flights was in the air during late Sunday night, with the pilot dying while in-flight.

The incident occurred on Flight 550 that flew from Phoenix to Boston but was directed to Syracuse Hancock International Airport and landed at 7:13 a.m. with paramedics not successful in reviving the pilot upon landing.

The 147-passenger cabin had a substitute crew come in to take them to Boston once the situation had been dealt with on the ground.
