Over a year after their widely publicized defamation trial, Amber Heard has finally paid her ex-husband, Johnny Deppthe $1 million he was owed in a settlement.

The Pirates of the Caribbean star said he would evenly distribute the money to his top charities: The Make-A-Film Foundation, The Painted Turtle, the Red Feather, Tetiaroa Society and the Amazonia Fund Alliance.

Depp has made appearances at various film events, with his controversial Cannes Film Festival attendance being the most recent. His film Jeanne du Barry premiered at the French festival and received a 7-minute standing ovation. Supporters of Heard voiced their opinions on Depp’s success at the festival.

Eve Barlow, a journalist and close friend of The Rum Diary actress, posted a picture of Depp on Instagram with the words, “If you support Cannes, you support predators” and captioned under the post, “Cannes seem proud of their history supporting rapists and abusers.”

Since their trial ended, Heard was last seen in Spain, when reporters filmed her in front of her villa.
