Amber Heard, true to her word, is donating the full $7 million divorce settlement from estranged husband Johnny Depp to charity.
Heard and Depp released a joint statement earlier this week to announce that they had reached a settlement in their protracted divorce, which has seen both of their names splashed across the headlines.
“Our relationship was intensely passionate and at times volatile, but always bound by love,” the statement read. “Neither party has lied nor made false accusations for financial gain. There was never any intent of physical or emotional harm.”
The statement added, “Amber wishes the best for Johnny in the future. Amber will be donating financial proceeds from the divorce to a charity. There will be no further public statements about this matter.”
Though the statement was partially retracted by Heard’s lawyer, it seems as though it was correct in noting that Amber had no intention of keeping the money that she is receiving in the divorce.
Heard, who had sought a restraining order against Depp after filing for divorce, provided evidence to support her claim that Depp had been physically and emotionally abusive towards her during the course of their relationship. Though Heard has decided to stop pursuing legal action against Depp for his alleged domestic abuse, she has chosen to donate the proceeds from her divorce from the Hollywood star to the ACLU and the Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles to help women and children.
“As described in the restraining order and divorce settlement, money played no role for me personally and never has, except to the extent that I could donate it to charity and, in doing so, hopefully help those less able to defend themselves,” Heard said in a statement released to People magazine. “As reported in the media, the amount received in the divorce was $7 million and $7 million is being donated. This is over and above any funds that I have given away in the past and will continue to give away in the future.”
Heard added of the ACLU and Children’s Hospital of Los Angeles, “I know these organizations will put the funds to good use and look forward to continuing to support them in the future. Hopefully, this experience results in a positive change in the lives of people who need it the most.”
Heard filed for divorce from Depp in May after 15 months of marriage.
