Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos tested a giant robot suit at the company’s MARS conference on Sunday.
The conference’s focus is on Machine-learning, Automation, Robotics, and Space, hence the name MARS. “Why do I feel so much like Sigourney Weaver,” joked Bezos, referring to the actress’ character in Alien.
The robot suit was designed by South Korean company Hankook Mirae Technology and stood just shy of 14 feet. Bezos was able to get the robot’s arms to move synchronously with his own inside the suit.
“Everything we have been learning so far on this robot can be applied to solve real-world problems,” said the robot’s designer, Vitaly Bulgarov. The suit is called the Method-2, and was designed to enter places where it would be unsafe for a human to go. It is seen as a test for building robots of various shapes and sizes in the future.
