Amanda Knox
Amanda Knox, who was accused of committing the 2007 murder of Meredith Kercher, will learn her fate Wednesday.
Italy’s Court of Cassation will decide tomorrow whether or not Knox’s 2009 conviction should stand, in which case she could face a 28-year prison sentence, reported ABC News. If the court determines that there’s not enough to uphold the conviction, then Knox would face another trial on appeal.
Knox, 27, and her former boyfriend Raffaele Sollecito were both convicted in 2009 of Kercher’s murder. Two years later, their convictions were overturned on appeal. Two years after that, the acquittal was thrown out. In 2014, the original conviction was upheld.
If the conviction is upheld, Knox, who has built a life for herself in Seattle that includes a job writing for the West Seattle Herald and a fiancé, could face extradition. Knox, for her part, is determined not to return to Italy and to an Italian jail.
“I will never go willingly back to the place where I — I’m going to fight this to the very end,” she told ABC News last year.
While Knox’s court battles wage on, Perugian drifter Rudy Guede is serving a 16-year sentence for Kercher’s murder.
