Amanda Kloots, Actor Nick Cordero’s Widow, Fires Back At Trump’s COVID-19 Misinformation

Actress Amanda Kloots has fired back at Donald Trump‘s recent tweet telling Americans to not fear COVID-19. Three months ago, Kloots’ husband, actor Nick Cordero, died after a 95 day long struggle with the virus.

Kloots posted a statement of Trump’s recent tweet on her Instagram, captioning the image with a paragraph about her experience caring for Cordero.

“[The coronavirus] dominated Nick’s family’s lives and my family’s lives,” she wrote. “I guess we “let it” – like it was our choice?? Unfortunately not everyone is lucky enough to spend two days in the hospital.”

Cordero’s three month struggle with the virus was extremely long and hard – by the time he died, he had become reliant on a ventilator, had his leg amputated and gone in and out of a coma.

“[COVID] IS something to be afraid of,” Kloots continues. “After you see the person you love the most die from this disease you would never say what this tweet says”

Kloots followed up the photo with a video splicing together her words with a speech Trump made after being released from Walter Reed.

“I stood out front, I led. Nobody that’s a leader would not do what I did,” Trump says in the video. “I know there’s a risk, there’s a danger, but that’s okay.”

“This disease is terrible,” Kloots responds in tears, asking Trump to stand with the families of the Americans that were killed by the virus.

In the caption of the video, Kloots more directly attacks Trump.

“He had a chance to be kind, to show compassion,” she writes. “Instead he brags about himself and says this virus isn’t something to be afraid of. No thank you Mr. President. Your words are shameful, a dagger in the hearts of Americans. Please tell me how that makes America great again?”

Kloots isn’t the only person having to dispute Trump’s willful spread of misinformation since his release from Walter Reed a few days ago – Twitter has also been flagging his tweets.

“Learn how voting by mail is safe and secure,” the Twitter warning issued under his message reads.

The below post has been flagged by Twitter in a way the platform has never done before – it’s so misleading that it would normally be deleted by the system administrators, but because Trump is both the president and a presidential candidate, it was left up without the ability to like or reply to it.

This Tweet violated the Twitter Rules about spreading misleading and potentially harmful information related to COVID-19,” the warning reads. “However, Twitter has determined that it may be in the public’s interest for the Tweet to remain accessible.

On mobile Twitter, all you can see of the post when it appears on your feed is the warning. Users have to take a step further and click on the label to read the original tweet.
