Amanda Bynes' mother has reportedly taken her off medication, and her lawyer has corroborated the mother’s assertion that Bynes does not have mental illness and has improved due to abstaining from marijuana.

Amanda Bynes Not Schizophrenic

Both Lynn Bynes and lawyer Tamar Arminak have come forward to dispel reports that Bynes had been diagnosed with a mental illness during her extensive treatment following a public breakdown. The culprit, as implied by Bynes’ spokespeople, was marijuana.

"She has no mental illness whatsoever. She has never been diagnosed as schizophrenic or bipolar,” Bynes mother told People. "Amanda is very sorry for all the hurtful tweets, statements and actions that occurred while she was under the influence of marijuana."

"Amanda currently is on zero medication," added Arminak. "She's devoted to living her life as healthy as possible. She's never had a history of abusing alcohol or hard drugs, and she's proud to say she's been marijuana-free for the past nine months."

Bynes Continues Recovery From Breakdown

"For the record, Amanda does not have schizophrenia, nor has she ever been diagnosed with it,” the lawyer continued. "Her family is closely involved with her day-to-day life, but they try to give her as much autonomy as possible. She's doing extremely well. Her primary focus is bonding with her family and being a student."

Bynes was placed on an LPS Hold by the state of California last summer after she was caught lighting a fire in a private driveway. At the time, the judge granted a conservatorship to Lynn Bynes based off of an investigators determination that the actress was suffering from mental illness. Her mental illness diagnosis was also the apparent reason why her lawyers have been able to obtain delays for her pending criminal cases.

Bynes, who is reportedly still undergoing outpatient therapy, is currently studying at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising.
