Amanda Bynes’ mother, Lynne Bynes, was granted a temporary conservatorship and legal control over the troubled former actress.
It was ruled on Friday that Amanda Bynes, who has been hospitalized for 17 days, be placed under a 30-day psychiatric hold, reported the New York Daily News. Due to her doctor's belief that she is unable to responsibly give consent for her medical care, Judge Glen M. Reiser ruled to put Bynes under the conservatorship of her mother.
Though temporary, the ruling will allow Lynn Bynes to legally take control of her daughter’s finances and medical care. Among the decisions Amanda Bynes’ mother will be entitled to make will be where she lives, the food that’s available to her, what she wears and how her estimated $3 million in savings is spent, reported People magazine.
During the hearing, Amanda Bynes’ attorney Mary Shea, fought against the conservatorship. Shea stated that her client does “oppose and object” her mother assuming control of her well being, adding, “She doesn’t feel there’s a need.”
The specific incident that led to Amanda Bynes' current conservatorship occurred on July 22, when she allegedly started a fire in the driveway of her childhood home in Thousand Oaks, Calif. She was then put on California’s 5150, an involuntary psychiatric hold. Since then, her parents had been trying to have her daughter placed under their control so that they could oversee her medical care and finances, and prevent her from harming herself or others.
Lynn Bynes' conservatorship over her daughter will expire on Sept. 30.
