Actress Alyssa Milano called for a sex strike to protest anti-abortion laws on Saturday.
“Our reproductive rights are being erased. Until women have legal control over our own bodies we just cannot risk pregnancy,” she tweeted. “JOIN ME by not having sex until we get bodily autonomy back.”
”I’m calling for a #SexStrike. Pass it on,” she added.
Milano also said that sex strikes have proven to be effective, tweeting a Quartz article on the subject.
The #MeToo activist is also a vocal pro-choice advocate. She said this week that she would be boycotting the state of Georgia after the state’s governor signed a “heartbeat bill,” which would outlaw abortion when a fetal heartbeat is detected. The law, which is scheduled to come into effect on Jan. 1, would make abortion illegal as early as six weeks into pregnancy.
Fellow actress Bette Midler tweeted in support of Milano.
Fifty actors also proposed a boycott of film and television production in the state — including Amy Schumer, Christina Applegate, Alec Baldwin and Ben Stiller.
“We want to stay in Georgia,” the letter reads. “But we will not do so silently, and we will do everything in our power to move our industry to a safer state for women if [this] becomes law.”
