Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater
The Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater brought audience members to their feet at Lincoln Center on Saturday night with a performance of Untitled America. The piece by MacArthur “Genius” Award winner Kyle Abraham explores the impact of draconian drug laws on the African-American community. Voices from actual intimates reflecting on their experiences are heard over the music of Laura Mvula‘s “Father, Father” and the spiritual “No More My Lord.” The rythmic modern dance perfectly expresses the agony of their plight. The night also included memorables performance of Ailey’s 1960 crowd-pleasing classic Revelations and Hope Boykin‘s colorful r-Evolution Dream.
