Nxivm, a New York-based “self help group,” has been accused of being a front for a sex cult that abused female members has suspended their operations because of “extraordinary circumstances.”
On the Nxivm’s website they posted a statement saying that they are pausing “all NXIVM/ESP enrollment, curriculum and events until further notice.” This comes following the trial of the group’s leader, Keith Raniere, and his second in command, former Smallville star, Allison Mack.

The two were arrested for using the organization as a front for a sex cult that coerced members into performing sex acts and acts of labor that were “of serious harm or threats of serious harm.” Women have accused the group of branding them with Raniere’s initials and using their nude photos as blackmail.

They were both charged with sex trafficking, sex trafficking conspiracy and conspiracy to commit forced labor. Mack was released on a $5 million bail. However, Raniere is still being held without bail. Both Mack and Raniere have pleaded not guilty on all charges, their trial begins October 1.
Nxivm’s website stated that they will continue their work after the allegations are cleared. “We continue to believe in the value and importance of our work and look forward to resuming our efforts when these allegations are resolved,” the website reads.
