Jeopardy! host Alex Trebek revealed that the show will be airing reruns for the rest of July and into August due to to the coronavirus pandemic.
The Jeopardy! Twitter account posted a video that Trebek had filmed in his home sharing the news. He explained that since the show has gone through all of its new episodes, it will be airing old ones. He said, “Now, in the meantime, I’m here at home recording show openings for some very special Jeopardy! episodes that will be coming up in July. For the first time ever, we are going to open the Jeopardy! vaults and take another look at some of our favorite episodes, including the very first Jeopardy! show I ever hosted – mustache and all.”
Jeopardy!’s website stated that it “combed through 8,000 episodes and have selected 20 shows that highlight key moments, contestants and gameplay over the course of 36 seasons, many of which have not been aired since their original broadcast.”
Starting on July 20, highlights from the first decade of the game show will be aired. For the second week, it will broadcast highlights from Celebrity Jeopardy! and for the first two weeks of August it will show “Million Dollar Master’s.”
Toward the end of the video, 79-year–old Trebek updated fans on his cancer treatment. He said, “I’m doing well. I’ve been continuing my treatment and it is paying off. Though it does fatigue me a great deal, my numbers are good. I’m feeling great. In fact, during the break from the studio, I even wrote a book that will be coming out July 21st.”
