Alejandro “Jano” Fuentes, who was a top 10 contestant on The Voice Mexico – La Voz – was killed following a shooting incident in Chicago last week. He was 45.
Fuentes was shot to death in the Chicago neighborhood of Brighton Park last Thursday night, reported the Chicago Tribune. Fuentes had been leaving the Tras Bambalinas performing arts school that he had opened three years ago, when a purported carjacker approached his car. The attacker had a handgun on his person when he ordered Fuentes to exit his vehicle. When Fuentes refused, the attacker shot him three times in the head and then fled.
As of yet, police have no suspects.
When Fuentes was found shot, he was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Doctors placed the musician on life support until his relatives from Mexico could say goodbye. He was taken off life support and officially passed away Saturday.
Fuentes had been a standout on the first season of La Voz, which aired in 2011. His mentor on the show was Lucero,
