Saturday Night Live continued its parody of President Donald Trump, with Alec Baldwin in the main role.
This week, the show’s cold open portrayed Trump being mock interviewed by NBC’s Lester Holt, played by Michael Che. Baldwin’s Trump struggled with questions about firing former FBI Director James Comey, and comparisons to Richard Nixon.
“Thank you for having me here, jazz man. Well, first all I can just say is, I won the election fair and square, everyone knows that,” he began the interview.
“Holt” proceeds to skewer him with questions about the firing of Comey.
“I fired him because of Russia,” Baldwin says. “I thought, ‘He’s investigating Russia. I don’t like that. I should fire him.’”
Baldwin then says that none of this matters, because he “has the Republicans in the palm of his hand. Then, he summons Paul Ryan who appears with two scoops of ice cream.
“I am nothing like Nixon because I am not a crook, plus I bet Nixon only got one scoop of ice cream for dessert, but I get two,” Baldwin’s Trump defends himself.
Che’s Holt proceeded to point out the fact the presidency has practically become a reality show.
“Too bad because this is gonna run for eight years, ok? Even though it should’ve been canceled months ago, but don’t worry: We have plenty of fun plot twists coming up,” Trump responded. “A lot of your favorite characters will be coming back. I don’t want to give away too much but in an upcoming episode we will find out that Kellyanne was dead this whole time.”
