On Wednesday, Alec Baldwin announced that he deactivated his Twitter account because of “a–holes” on the platform who criticized his tweet about Gillian Anderson‘s American accent.
Earlier in the day, Baldwin tweeted a news article that pointed out that Anderson, who grew up both in the U.S. and the U.K., accepted her Golden Globe Award on Sunday night for her portrayal of British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher on Netflix’s The Crown in an American accent.
Anderson is quoted in the CNN article about her accent. “I just slip into one or the other. When I moved to the States I tried hard to cling on to my British accent because it made me different,” the now-London resident said.
Baldwin recently defended his wife Hilaria after critics came for her online alleging that she faked her Spanish heritage. He quit Twitter in January over the incident.
On Monday, the couple announced the birth of their sixth child.
