Alan Thicke, father to “Blurred Lines” singer Robin Thicke, hopes for the best for his son and his estranged wife Paula Patton.
Thicke, 67, isn’t sure whether or not Robin Thicke and Patton are going to officially reconcile after announcing their plans to separate earlier this year. Thicke thinks that they’re two great people, and his main concern is that they’re happy – together or apart.
"I hope whatever they decide to do will make them both happy,” Thicke, who starred on Growing Pains, told E! News. “That's the key thing. You want your kids to be happy. They're strong, smart and talented people and they'll make great decisions."
With his wife of nine years, Tanya, and their 16-year-old son Carter, Thicke is starring in his own semi-reality series Unusually Thicke that premieres Wednesday on TVGN. While his eldest son from his previous marriage to soap opera star Gloria Loring will make a few appearances on the show, his marital issues won’t make the cut.
"You won't see [Robin's] drama. You'll see a couple of appearances, cameos by Robin checking up on me,” said Thicke, before joking, "Of course, I'm happy to exploit him as much as possible. He's clearly an important part of the family and good enough to participate a little bit."
Thicke and Patton began dating when the former was just 14 years old, and they were married in 2005. In 2010, they welcomed their son Julian. They announced their plans to separate in late February with a statement that read, "We will always love each other and be best friends, however, we have mutually decided to separate at this time.”
