A huge amount of declassified Air Force UFO files have found their way online, with almost 130,000 pages of records of UFO sightings flooding the internet.
The document dump comes courtesy of UFO enthusiast John Greenewald, who filed many Freedom of Information Act requests for the files, known as Project Blue Book, over the course of 20 years. Greenewald shared the files on his database, The Black Vault – the first time the entire Project Blue Book files have ever been posted online.
The files contain reports of over 12,600 UFO sightings between 1947 and 1969. Moreover, 701 of the sightings were deemed “unidentified,” or unexplained. Project Blue Book came to an end when the government stated that there was not enough evidence to prove any threat to national security, or to prove that any UFOs were, indeed, alien.
The files do not cover the well-known UFO conspiracy theories, such as the spacecraft crash that supposedly took place in Roswell in 1947, but Roswell does pop up here and there, with various UFO sightings.
While some might look at the documents as proof that UFO sightings are not indicative of extraterrestrial life, Greenewald says that he believes the opposite. “They really couldn’t, at the end of the day, explain some of these more important cases,” Greenewald told ABC News.
“When I look at the documentation, I’m a believer, based on that. I believe the documentation proves beyond a shadow of a doubt that there is a coverup going on,” Greenewald added.
