U2, Kanye West, Chris Martin, Bruce Springsteen and Carrie Underwood all turned out to Manhattan’s Times Square Monday evening for a surprise World AIDS Day concert.

Former President Bill Clinton took to the stage Monday night to introduce the night’s first performance by “U2 Minus 1” – the Irish rock band that had to perform minus Bono, who is still recovering from injuries sustained in a bike riding accident. Guitarist the Edge, bassist Adam Clayton and drummer Larry Mullen Jr. were all present to perform the group’s Grammy-winning “Beautiful Day” with the help of Coldplay frontman Chris Martin.

Martin also filled stepped into Bono’s vocal shoes for “With or Without You.” New Jersey rocker Bruce Springsteen took over the vocals for “Where the Streets Have No Name” and “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For.”

West gave spirited performances of “Jesus Walks,” ”Power” and “Stronger” and a pregnant Carrie Underwood delivered renditions of “Change” and “Something in the Water.”
