Robert F. Kennedy claimed President Joe Biden is a more significant threat to democracy than his opponent, Donald Trump.
“A moment ago, you said you – you essentially see Trump and Biden as the same,” CNN news anchor Erin Burnet told Kennedy during an interview.
“But do you really believe that when people talk about the threat to democracy that Trump poses—do you really think that it is an equal evil to Biden?” Burnett then asked him.
“Listen, I make the argument that President Biden is a much worse threat to democracy,” he replied. “And the reason for that is President Biden is the first candidate – the first president in history that has used the federal agencies to censor political speech or censor his opponent.”
“You know, I can say that because I just want a case, a federal court of appeals now before the Supreme Court,” RFK Jr. stated. “It shows that he started censoring not just me – 37 hours after he took the oath of office. He was censoring me. No president in the country has ever done that.”
“The greatest threat to democracy is not somebody who questions election returns, but a president united to use the power of his office to force social media companies [like] Facebook, Instagram, Twitter to open a portal and give access to that portal to the FBI, to the CIA, the IRS, the SISA, the NIH, the censor, his political critics,” Kennedy then declared.
Kennedy called out the Biden administration for having worked with social media companies to restrict the circulation of Covid-19 misinformation. Instagram banned him for spreading inaccurate claims about the Covid-19 vaccine claims back in 2021, albeit temporarily.
“As implied for the first – first president in history to use the secrets of his power over the Secret Service that deny Secret Service protection to one of his political opponents,” he stated. “For a political reason, he’s weaponizing a federal agency. Those are really critical threats.”
The CNN anchor then brought up that Trump “tried to overturn a free and fair election and he is “still fighting in court.”
“Well, I think that is a threat to democracy himself,” he responded. “It’s we’re trying to overthrow the election, clearly a threat to democracy.”
“But the question was, who is a worse threat to democracy,” Burnett asked him again.
“And what I would say is, you know, I’m not going to answer that question, but I can argue that President Biden has, because the First Amendment, Erin, is the most important,” RFK Jr. claimed.
Biden’s allies soon slammed Kennedy over these comments.
“There is no comparison to summoning a mob to the Capitol and promising to be a dictator on day one,” Mary Beth Cahill, a Democratic National Committee senior advisor, said in a statement released following Kennedy’s remarks.
This statement referred to the Capitol attack and Trump’s comments during the Fox News town hall in 2023, saying he would be a dictator on the first day of his presidency.
“Robert F. Kennedy Jr. laid to rest tonight any doubts that he’s a spoiler candidate by pushing his MAGA talking points in prime time,” Cahill said.
In June 2023, YouTube removed a video of an interview featuring Kennedy, who had made claims that chemicals in the water are turning children transgender.
YouTube said that it took down the video of the Jordan Peterson podcast because it violated its terms of service regarding vaccine misinformation.
Kennedy and Peterson tweeted about their interview being taken down and even shared the video so viewers could watch it on Twitter.
They both accuse YouTube of censorship and interfering with RFK Jr.’s presidential campaign.
