On Monday, Kelly Clarkson surprised audiences by revealing that she uses weight loss medication to aid her health journey in losing over 60 pounds.
The talk show host interviewed EGOT-winner Whoopi Goldberg and began with, “Every time I run into you, you look younger! You’re like Benjamin Button. It’s like crazy every time you walk in!”
Goldberg replied, “First of all, it’s all the weight I’ve lost. I’ve lost almost two people. I am doing that wonderful shot that works for folks who need some help, and it’s been really good for me.”
Clarkson soon disclosed her personal experience with weight loss and stated that she, too, had shed a significant amount of weight recently. She clarified, “Mine is a different one than people assume, but I ended up having to do that too because my bloodwork got so bad.”
She elaborated, “My doctor chased me for two years, and I was like, ‘No, I’m afraid of it. I already have thyroid problems.’ Everybody thinks it’s Ozempic, but it’s not. It’s something else.” Clarkson explained the medication is “aids in helping break down the sugar,” and noted that her body “doesn’t do it right.”
Before her discussion with Goldberg, Clarkson revealed in January that she attributed her weight loss to following her doctor’s advice and admitted she had neglected to do so for a few years. The Grammy winner also credited her new home, New York City, for contributing to her fitness journey.
She highlighted the benefits of walking in the city as a remarkable workout. Clarkson further incorporated infrared saunas and cold plunges into her routine.
Regarding her diet, Clarkson emphasized a healthy balance and stated, “90 percent of the time, I’m really good at it because a protein diet is good for me anyway. I’m a Texas girl, so I like meat—sorry, vegetarians in the world!”
In a subsequent episode of her talk show that featured Kevin James, she revealed that she had been diagnosed as pre-diabetic, which motivated her to embark on her weight loss journey.
Clarkson humorously recalled the diagnosis and said, “But I wasn’t shocked by it. They were like, ‘You’re pre-diabetic. You’re right on the borderline.’ And I was like, ‘But I’m not there yet.’ And then I waited two years, and then I was like, ok, I’ll do something about it.”
Clarkson recently sued her ex-husband, Brandon Blackstock, for $2.6 million she says he improperly took in management fees.
