Martin Short and Meryl Streep showcased their close friendship at the Season Four premiere of Hulu’s hit series Only Murders in the Building on Monday night.

The duo, who play love interests for the first time in their lengthy careers, were all smiles on the red carpet. Streep stunned in a navy and white patterned dress, while Short opted for a classic black suit complemented by a burgundy tie.

Photographers captured the pair holding hands and sharing laughs with their co-stars, highlighting the chemistry that has made them fan favorites both on and off screen.

In a recent interview with Backstage magazine, Short expressed his admiration for Streep’s unprecedented 21 Oscar nominations. “Who’s even made 21 movies?” he quipped, emphasizing how significant her accomplishment is.

Short also shared stories from their time on set, revealing the depth of Streep’s commitment to her craft. He recounted an incident where Streep’s acting was so convincing that a show creator mistook her first line of dialogue for off-camera conversation.

“She’s so good that you don’t even know when you’ve started,” Short marveled, emphasizing Streep’s ability to seamlessly inhabit her characters.

The comedic actor also recalled a moment of playful self-awareness from Streep after filming a scene on the Staten Island Ferry. According to Short, Streep turned to him and said, “I just want you to know that, sometimes, I can be quite good. And that was an example of it.”

Short praised Streep’s work ethic, noting her “full commitment to every rehearsal,” a quality he deeply respects and relates to as a fellow performer.

The two have both publically denied dating rumors in recent days.

While the pair have been friends for years, Only Murders in the Building marks their first on-screen collaboration as romantic partners. The show, which has gained a devoted following for its blend of comedy and mystery, enters its fourth season with heightened anticipation due to the addition of Streep to its already star-studded cast.
