After Dementia Diagnosis, Wendy Williams, 60, Attends Son Kevin’s College Graduation

Former talk show host Wendy Williams made a rare public appearance at her son’s graduation on December 19.

Williams’ son, Kevin Hunter Jr. graduated from Florida International University in Miami on Thursday. Pictures showed Williams, 60, in a sparkly black dress and a necklace with a big ‘W’ pendant, sitting with her family in a mobility scooter customized with a Louis Vuitton cup holder.

Williams and her ex-husband, Kevin Hunter, with whom she shares Hunter Jr, 24, were married for 20 years. Williams filed for divorce in April 2019 and the divorce was finalized in January 2020.

The Wendy Williams Show was canceled in June 2022 as Williams dealt with health struggles. Williams’ representatives revealed in February that she had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia.

Last month, Williams’ former court-appointed guardian, Sabrina Morrissey, claimed in documents that Williams is now “Cognitively impaired, permanently disabled, and legally incapacitated.”

Hunter Jr. appeared in the 2024 Lifetime documentary Where is Wendy Williams, which explored Williams’ life amid her health battles after the cancellation of her show. In the series, in addition to expressing his concern for his mother’s future public presence, he vocalized his discomfort with the choice of Morrissey as Williams’ guardian, “I feel like the guardian has not done a good job of protecting my mom.”

Morrissey condemned the very Lifetime docuseries that Hunter Jr. participated in as a humiliation to Williams, and is in a legal battle with A&E Television Networks, Lifetime Entertainment, and others involved in the production of Where is Wendy Williams?

The lawsuit, filed Nov. 12, alleges that footage of Williams was “Filmed without a valid contract and released without Guardian’s consent.” It also asserted that Williams was “highly vulnerable” at the time the media series sought footage of her, and was “clearly incapable of consenting to being filmed, much less humiliated and exploited.”
