After last Friday’s verdict awarding author E. Jean Carroll the $83 million from a New York City jury, she claimed she would donate the winnings to a cause that Donald Trump “hates” and will “cause him pain.”
In 2019, Carroll accused Trump of sexual assault and won after several years of legal battles. After winning the lawsuit, she has started dreaming up ways to use her new earnings. One of the ideas she has had is to create a fund for women who Trump has assaulted.
While on Good Morning America, Carroll announced that she cried after the trial following an exchange of smiles between herself and the jury.
This is not the first time that a jury has ruled in favor of Carroll over Trump after an assault that occurred in a Bergdorf Goodman dressing room in the 90s. A jury previously awarded her $5 million in damages last year in a separate case.
Trump has consistently denied that the exchange ever happened and that he had ever even met Carroll. He is said to have plans to appeal the verdict in the near future.
The ruling of the jury against Trump will force him to pay Carroll $7.3 million for emotional harm, $11 million for damages to reputation and $65 million for punitive damages for attacking her character publicly.
Carroll claimed that the joy she and her lawyer, Roberta Kaplan, felt after hearing the verdict was “almost painful.”
“I do have an idea. I’d like to give the money to something Donald Trump hates. That will cause him pain for something to give money to certain things,” she stated regarding how she would utilize the compensation. “Perhaps a fund for the women who have been sexually assaulted by Donald Trump.”
Trump referred to the trial as “ridiculous” and left the courtroom before the verdict could be read.
The judge in the trial cut off Trump’s testimony after three minutes due to violating his order to refrain from introducing matters that had already been decided.
