After Conviction For Assaulting His Girlfriend, Jonathan Majors To Receive ‘Perseverance’ Award

Former Marvel star Jonathan Majors will be honored with the Perseverance Award at the upcoming Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards, just months after being convicted in a domestic violence trial.

The embattled 34-year-old actor is set to receive the award, which is “given to an individual who has shown that no matter what adversity they face, they will continue to aspire to inspire,” during the June 21 event in Los Angeles, event organizers announced Wednesday.

The decision to fete Majors comes after he was found guilty in December 2023 on one count of assault and one count of harassment stemming from a dispute with his then-girlfriend, Grace Jabbari. A Manhattan judge ruled in April that Majors must complete a 52-week batterer’s intervention program and continue mental health therapy, though he avoided prison time.

Majors, who starred in Creed III and Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, was arrested in March 2023 after Jabbari alleged he twisted her arm, struck her face and shoved her into a car. She received medical treatment for minor injuries.

Jabbari was granted a temporary protection order against Majors and later filed a civil suit accusing him of assault, battery, defamation and infliction of emotional distress. An attorney for Majors said he is “preparing counterclaims against Ms. Jabbari.”

The annual Hollywood Unlocked Impact Awards, founded by CEO Jason Lee, celebrates black accomplishments across entertainment, media and politics. This year’s other honorees include designer Christian Louboutin (Innovator Award), rapper Fat Joe (Culture Award) and Cardi B (Inspiration Award).

Following his legal troubles, Majors was dropped by his talent manager and publicist. He also parted ways with several upcoming projects, including a Dennis Rodman biopic and future Marvel Cinematic Universe films, where he was set to portray a major villain.
