After a nine-year battle, Dolph Lundren is officially cancer-free.
In an Instagram post on Wednesday, the Swedish actor shared a video that revealed he was undergoing a lung ablation, a procedure that uses heat or cold to destroy lung cancer cells. He captioned the clip, “Finally cancer-free with gratefulness and excitement for a bright future. Thanks for all your support always.”
In the video, he said, “Here I am at UCLA, I’m about to go in and get rid of that last tumor…Since there are no cancer cells in my body anymore, I guess I’ll be cancer-free so I’m looking forward to this procedure…It’s been a rough ride and really taught me how to live in the moment and enjoy every moment of life. I mean, it’s the only way to go.”
Lundgren reposted the video to his story, with the over-comment, “Thank you for all of your wonderful messages and supportive comments. It’s gonna tale a little more to break me.”
An actor, filmmaker, martial artist and chemical engineer, Lundgren was born in Spånga, a community in Stockholm. He is known for his roles in Rocky IV, The Expendables and Creed II.
Lundgren, 67, revealed that he was battling a very serious cancer in May 2023. In an interview with Graham Bensinger, he explained, “They found a tumor…in my kidney, and they took it out here in LA in 2015…But then they did a biopsy – and it was cancerous.”
Lundgren said that he underwent scans every six months to a year from then on, and everything continually looked ‘fine’. Then in 2020, Lundgren began to experience extreme pain which turned out to be more tumors. Lundgren said his doctor gave him two to three years to live.
He recalled his reaction to the news, “I’ve had a great life. I’ve lived like five lifetimes in one…So it wasn’t like I felt bitter but I felt sorry for my kids and my fiance.”
