After Becoming ‘Disillusioned’ With Life In The U.S., Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Buy $4.7 Million Estate In Portugal
Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have bought themselves a new home in Portugal.
The beachfront property, located in the small town of Melides, is roughly 81 miles south of Lisbon. This area of Portugal has been nicknamed “The Hamptons of Portugal” due to the influx of high-profile individuals buying property, such as George Clooney and Sharon Stone.
Harry and Markle are rumored to have spent a whopping $4.7 million on a soon-to-be-constructed house on the 722-acre CostaTerra Golf and Ocean Club.
Grant Harrold, a formal butler to King Charles, told The New York Post that he does not think Harry and Meghan’s move is unprecedented. “Their life in the U.S. – there’s so many people that move away and move back, so I don’t think there’s anything unusual about Harry and Meghan leaving the U.S. for Europe…But maybe living in the States wasn’t what they thought it would be, and that could be why they’re now supposedly edging their way back in the direction of the U.K.”
Harrold commented, “There’s no obvious reason for choosing Portugal as a location to live, but let’s not forget that it’s not unusual for royals to set up overseas.”
Portugal has a similar climate to Montecito, California, where Harry and Markle currently reside.
Harrold believes that the personal relationships they built in the U.S. will not be forgotten anytime soon. “The friendships they have, I’m sure they will keep, as it is for anyone who moves abroad, friends will come and visit,” he said. “I don’t think it will be the end of their celebrity friendships at all.”
Harry recently inherited $8.5 million from his late grandmother’s estate – more than even his brother, Prince William.
Markle has been reeling from losing numerous staffers due to her “difficult” management style.
