Sarah Ferguson, the Duchess of York and Prince Andrew’s former wife, announced that she has been diagnosed with skin cancer.
Ferguson says she was “taking some time to herself’ after receiving the bad news. This comes after she was diagnosed with breast cancer last June.
A representative for Ferguson confirmed the report. “Following her diagnosis with an early form of breast cancer this summer, Sarah, Duchess of York has now been diagnosed with malignant melanoma,” her spokesperson said in a statement.
Ferguson took to Instagram to elaborate on her condition.
“Naturally another cancer diagnosis has been a shock, but I’m in good spirits and grateful for the many messages of love and support,” she wrote.
Ferguson also encouraged her followers to check their skin. “I believe my experience underlines the importance of checking the size, shape, color and texture and emergence of new moles that can be a sign of melanoma and urge anyone who is reading this to be diligent,” she added.
She was pictured in Austria, where she stayed at the Mayrlife clinic, which is known to be frequented by many celebrities.
The Duchess had a single mastectomy in July.
Ferguson’s cancer diagnosis has been one of many health headlines relating to the royal family. Kate, the Princess of Wales and wife of Prince William, underwent planned abdominal surgery, while King Charles is due to have treatment for an enlarged prostate.
