After 100-Lbs. Weight Loss, Jessica Simpson Drops New Single About Heartbreaking Split With Eric Johnson

Just one month after announcing her split from Eric Johnson, Jessica Simpson is releasing her first single, “Use My Heart Against Me.” Simpson and Johnson were married for ten years and share three children – Maxwell, 12, Ace, 11, and Birdie, 5.

In a new interview, Simpson confessed that her split from Johnson was the worst heartbreak she has experienced – and her music is what got her through it. “I’ve grown up so much. I can handle so much…maybe I’m just meant to love a lot of people in my life,” she told People. “I don’t know why my heart gets tossed around, but I’m one of the lucky ones at least I have my children and I still have Eric. He’s still very much a part of my life and always will be.”

Last year, Simpson sparked concern about her fans showing off 100-pounds weight loss on social media.

Simpson’s full EP, Nashville Canyon: Part 1, a collection of five tracks, will be dropping on March 21. She expressed her gratitude for the outlet it provided. “Discovering this music is something I did on my own…It was just a way of me owning myself and declaring it,” she said. “I am a woman now and I can do what I want and to have freedom in music – I think that’s how you’re going to feel in ‘Nashville Canyon’.”

On Feb. 20, Simpson shared a photo on Instagram of her “Use My Heart Against Me” single’s cover art, accompanied by a melancholy and hopeful message.

She reflected, “Music makes you un-become to become, and through this process, my soul has been pulled to the very place it belongs.”

She continued, “To the girl I was, I love you. To the woman I am, I am proud of you. To the woman I am becoming, I am excited for you….let’s do this…it’s GO TIME.”

Simpson’s new song features sweet and depressed lyrics assumedly inspired by the undoing of her relationship with Johnson. She sings, “Drink me in until you’re tipsy / One and done / On the run / Restless soul / Rattle the reverb / Holy Ghost of a believer / I’m the key and you’re the keeper / Here I come / Here I come / Don’t misuse / Don’t confuse / My love.”
