Adrienne Maloof is officially free of divorce legal woes — the former Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star and her ex, Dr. Paul Nassif, have settled all legal issues relating to their divorce settlement.
The couple, married for over ten years, issued a joint statement expressing their intentions to focus on co-parenting their three young sons, Gavin, 9, and twins Christian and Collin, 6.
“Our first priority is our children’s well-being and happiness. As their parents and advocates that is our goal… We’re happy to be moving forward with our lives in a positive way not only individually but as co-parents. This is a new beginning for each of us. Our goal is for our children to have stable and nurturing relationships with both of us so that we can all find as much happiness as possible. We appreciate the good wishes we continue to receive from our supporters around the world,” the couple explained in the statement.
Nassif, a plastic surgeon, filed for legal separation in July of 2012 and filed for divorce a month later, citing irreconcilable differences, sparking an intense divorce and custody battle. The divorce was reportedly less complicated due to a prenup set up to protect Maloof’s $300 million fortune. Things between the estranged couple became strained when both Nassif and Maloof accused each other of being verbally and physically abusive during their custody battle – Nassif filed for joint custody, Maloof wanted primary custody.
Nassif alleged that Maloof had been violent towards him; Maloof alleged that their children were afraid of Nassif.
“[Nassif] carries a gun in his briefcase, which he leaves unlocked… [and] the children are afraid of him,” Maloof stated in court documents.
Maloof’s claims against her husband eventually led to a temporary custody deal in Oct 2012 in which Maloof got primary custody with Nassif getting the kids every other weekend.
Recently the couple had been fighting over the education of their eldest son, Gavin, who reportedly has learning difficulties. Nassif wanted Gavin to attend a school specializing in students with disabilities, but Maloof disagreed. Nassif dropped the case in August.
Maloof has been spotted moving on from her divorce with Sean Stewart, son of Rod Stewart. The couple reportedly began dating in January, breaking up in March only to get back together again in May. On Monday, Maloof seemed excited to move on with the next phase of her life after putting her divorce behind her, tweeting a message about "new beginnings" in her "new home."
Nassir also publicized his happiness with a tweet on Aug. 22, celebrating the "great" day he had with his sons at Disneyworld.
