Adam Montgomery, the father of 7-year-old Harmony Montgomery who hasn’t been seen in two years, was arrested on several assault charges.

Montgomery, 31, has been charged with felony second-degree assault in connection with a 2019 incident involving Harmony, according to the New Hampshire Attorney General’s Office. He has also been charged with several misdemeanors, including interference of custody, and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child.

In Montgomery’s arrest affidavit, he reportedly told uncle Kevin Montgomery that he beat Harmony soon after being granted custody of her from child-protective services. “I bashed her around the house,” Montgomery apparently told his brother.

Kevin has also spoken out against his brother in the past, claiming he has witnessed signs of abusive behavior such as Harmony sporting a black eye, and alleging she was ordered “to scrub the toilet with her toothbrush.”

Adam’s current charges don’t seem to directly relate to Harmony’s disappearance, but the arrest affidavit does provide more reports of concern among the Montgomery family when they spoke with investigators following the disappearance.

Among these were Adam Montgomery’s brother Michael, and his wife Kayla Montgomery. Michael was quoted as saying Adam was “super short” with Harmony when he saw them together last. Kayla Montgomery said she had seen Harmony with a black eye, but believed Adam’s explanation that it happened from playing with her brother.

As of December 31, 2021, authorities have relaunched the investigation as a missing-persons case. Manchester Police Chief Allen Aldenberg released the following statement:

“I am in rescue mode right now. This is not a recovery. All efforts are focused on that Harmony is alive… until somebody points to me that proves that she is not. We have to operate under the assumption that she is alive,” said Aldenberg, “Help us find this little girl. Someone knows something.”

Police have launched a 24-hour tip line and announced a $33,000 reward for information about Harmony Montgomery’s whereabouts.
