Adam Driver, the indie film actor who shot to fame and critical acclaim on HBO’s Girls, may have landed the role of the main villain in Star Wars: Episode VII.
Driver reportedly won the coveted role against the Oscar-nominated Michael Fassbender and The Killing’s Joel Kinnaman, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Although sources say the actor is all but confirmed for the role, Disney and Lucasfilm have remained silent amidst the speculation.
Driver’s Girls costar Lena Dunham congratulated him on his casting, then walked back the congratulations – not wanting to be accused of confirming the news – before making a crack about “Arm Rest Wars.”
While it’s relatively certain that Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill will make appearances in latest Star Wars flick, no further casting news has been reported. As with other major franchises, the Stars Wars casting news is being kept under a tight lid. In addition to Driver, it’s likely that a number of other actors have already been tapped for major parts.
Star Wars: Episode VII is expected to begin filming with director J.J. Abrams at the helm this spring in London. It’s slated to hit theaters Dec. 18, 2015.
