Actor Adam Brody called out celebrities focusing on anti-woke culture in a new podcast episode.
The O.C. star had a few things to say during an appearance on the Armchair Expert podcast, hosted by Dax Shepard and Monica Padman.
He voiced his opinion about celebrities obsessed with cancel culture. “But if that’s your north star, as a comedian, as an artist, as a political commentator, then you’ve f—ing lost the plot,” he said. “More good has been done than bad. It’s tangible to me.”
While Brody recognized that there are excesses within any movement, he finds the emphasis on the movement to be misplaced, saying, “There are so much bigger fish to fry.”
The actor said he’s suspicious when comedians solely focus on critiques of their content.
At a later point in the podcast, Brody said he favors open conversations with people of different political perspectives. “We can have a talk as long as we’re agreeing that global warming is real and we’re going to do something about it,” he said. “Let’s talk about how to make society a better place.”
Brody’s message seems to align well with his upcoming show, Nobody Wants This, which examines on the unexpected relationship between a rabbi and agnostic women.
Brody, who is Jewish but has never practiced much, recently said he was intrigued by the series’ modern approach to religion.
“When I read the part and the character, I first thought, ‘Oh, OK, so the point is he’s so modern, casual, and not preachy at all — he just happens to be a rabbi, and he really is just a modern L.A. guy,’” the actor recalled.
Nobody Wants This will be released September 26 on Netflix.
