The YouTube trailer for the movie that never was, "The Innocence of Muslims" is continuing to cause distress among the cast and crew of the film, many of whom have spoken out about how they were duped by alleged filmmaker Nakoula Basseley Nakoula, whom they knew under the alias Sam Bacile, into making the film, as they were offered a different script that had no religious themes whatsoever and was to be called Desert Warrior.
California actress Cindy Lee Garcia, the first of the film's actors to speak out against the trailer, has already threatened legal action against Nakoula, and on Wednesday she filed a lawsuit against him for invasion of privacy, fraud, slander and intentional infliction of emotional stress, as well as against YouTube and parent company Google for refusing to remove the clip from the site.
"She wants to clear her name. She has been the subject of death threats. She did not consent to use her image or likeness in this type of production," said Garcia's attorney, M. Cris Armenta, reports E! Online. "She has the [original] script …. There were no religious references made on set, or in script, nor was there any religious content made on set or in the script. She would not have consented to the use of her performance in that fashion."
Google has reportedly blocked the trailer from being seen in Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Libya in order to curb riots and attacks, but maintain that being forced to remove the content would be a violation of their First Amendment rights.
Nakoula has reportedly gone into hiding.
