Jeff Bridges announced Monday night via Twitter that he has been diagnosed with Lymphoma.
The actor, 70, broke the news of the potentially life-threatening illness with a reference to the iconic laid-back character he is known for playing. He tweeted, “As the Dude would say.. New S**T has come to light. I have been diagnosed with Lymphoma. Although it is a serious disease, I feel fortunate that I have a great team of doctors and the prognosis is good. I’m starting treatment and will keep you posted on my recovery.”
Bridges did not specify if he was diagnosed with Hodgkin or non-Hodgkin lymphoma. He also did not mention which stage of cancer he was diagnosed at.
The Oscar-winning actor is currently working on the drama series The Old Man set to debut on FX and Hulu in 2021. The team of the show wrote, regarding the news, “Our thoughts go out to Jeff and his family during this challenging time and they have our love and support. We wish him a safe and full recovery. And, as Jeff always says, ‘We are all in this together.'”
The actor posted a follow-up tweet, echoing the statement by the team and adding in a call to vote in the upcoming election. “I’m profoundly grateful for the love and support from my family and friends. Thank you for your prayers and well wishes. And while I have you, please remember to go vote. Because we are all in this together. Vote.org. Love, Jeff,” he wrote.
