Geoffrey Lewis, the Hollywood actor and father of actress Juliette Lewis, has died due to natural causes. He was 79.

Geoffrey Lewis Dies

Lewis passed away at his home in Woodland Hills Tuesday, April 7, reported Deadline.

Juliette Lewis confirmed her father’s passing on Instagram, captioning a picture of herself with her father, “My dad. My dad my dad my dad my dad. My love my dad. My dad. My hero. My dad. My dad my love my loving father. My strength my might. My friend. My hugs. My laughter. My love. My dad. Oh my heart. My heart. He loved us so. He loved us so. So so much. I am forever my father’s daughter and he will never been gone.”

Lewis was best known for his film career during the 60s and 70s in which he was a frequent costar and collaborator with Clint Eastwood. He appeared in Midnight In The Garden Of Good And Evil, Any Which Way You Can, Thunderbolt And Lightfoot and High Plains Drifter.

On the small screen, Lewis earned critical acclaim for his part on Alice spinoff Flo, for which he was nominated for a Golden Globe. His other TV credits include Law & Order: Criminal Intent, Hawaii Five-o and My Name is Earl.

Lewis’ daughter Juliette, who starred in the Oscar-nominated August: Osage County, has often spoken fondly of her father during her career. When speaking about her decision to emancipate herself from her parents as a young teen, she explained that the decision was not in any way indicative of tension with her mother or father.

“The truth is that it’s something very common that you did when you were acting very young and my parents actually helped me to do that,” she told The Daily Telegraph in 2010. “My parents are just the best. My dad instilled in me to naturally question all authority. I don’t follow anything blindly. That’s religion, cops, doctors, schools, you name it.”

Lewis is survived by wife Paula; his daughter Juliette and nine other children.
