Actor Faizon Love, known for his role in Elf, is facing assault charges after an incident broke out at John Glenn Columbus International Airport.
A video camera allegedly caught the 48-year-old comedian attacking airport valet Terrence Artis Gaines II, 24, near baggage claim. “There were some words exchanged, whatever, maybe something could have been avoided on both parts,” said Love’s lawyer John Moore in court. “My client did try to back away from the situation, he was kind of overwhelmed, there were several individuals speaking to him about the situation.”
In the video, Love is allegedly seen grabbing Gaines by the throat and throwing him down to the ground. As Gaines attempted to get back up, Love pushed him down again. Eventually other airport employees broke up the fight. There were no serious injuries, and Gaines only suffered a cut above his eye, according to the police report.
Love was held at the Franklin County Jail on Tuesday and appeared in court Wednesday, where he was charged with assault and a first-degree misdemeanor. He pleaded not guilty and was released on a $2,000 bond.
If convicted, Love could spend as long as six months in jail and owe a $1,000 fine. Love took to Twitter to speak on the matter. “I’m only human no matter how many good days, i’m due to have a bad one,” he posted. “With that being said… i’m big on respect… You don’t have to respect me just don’t Disrespect me…”
