Comedy legend Chevy Chase was reportedly attacked during an apparent road rage incident earlier this month.

CHEVY CHASE INVOLVED IN ROAD RAGE INCIDENT

A Long Island man is said to have gotten out of his vehicle and allegedly kicked Chase, 74, in the shoulder. State Police told ABC News that on Feb. 9, the former Saturday Night Live cast member was cut off by another driver, who was later identified as Michael Landrio, 22.

“Chase began to follow the vehicle, as well as flash his headlights,” the police reported in a statement. “Both drivers subsequently pulled over.” According to TMZ, Chase told cops that he thought the black truck that had cut him off had nicked his car. When he confirmed that no damage had been done, the actor decided to “speak to [Landrio] about his reckless driving.”

The police statement continues to say that the pair exchanged heated words before Landrio cursed at the actor and “kicked him in the shoulder.” Landrio, however, claims that he was simply defending himself from an oncoming punch by Chase. “We were in the right lane and as we came up to the bridge we went to the middle lane,” he said to Page Six. “It was an old guy yelling – something we couldn’t hear – super pissed-off… We just tried to get the heck away from him. He followed us the whole length of the bridge, driving crazy.”

Contrary to Chase’s report, which stated that a passenger flipped him off, Landrio claims that he and his passengers were polite. “My friend opened his window and just said, ‘I apologize, we were just trying to go upstate.'” The 22-year-old claims that the actor responded with profanity and said, “‘I am going to ruin your lives!'”

Landrio was “arrested and charged with Harassment 2nd degree and was released on an appearance ticket,” according to police. He is due in court on March 5.

Chase is currently working on various project, including The Last Laugh alongside Andie MacDowell and Richard Dreyfuss.
