Accused Pipe Bomber Cesar Sayoc's Lawyer Says Client "Found Father In Trump"
A lawyer for the family of Cesar Sayoc Jr., the man charged with mailing bombs to 14 leading Democrats this week, said that Sayoc “found a father” in President Donald Trump.
Miami lawyer Ronald Lowy said on CNN, one of the bombing targets, while discussing the arrest of Sayoc. Lowy described him as a “sick individual” who was “lost” and needed help.
“He was looking for anything, and he found a father in Trump,” Lowy said, noting that the man’s father “abandoned him as a child” and “he was trying to create an identity.”
Lowy said that Sayoc was attracted to Trump’s messages, including reaching out to “outsiders” and “people who are angry at America.”

He added that he doesn’t blame the president solely for the attempted attacks.
Sayoc was arrested early Friday and charged with five federal crimes for allegedly sending bombs to over a dozen Democratic figures including former President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton. The 56-year-old resident of Aventura, Florida, faces up to 48 years in prison.
Sayoc was taken into custody along with his white van that was plastered with right-wing political stickers, including one that read “CNN sucks.”
Sayoc’s Twitter and Facebook pages were also filled with pro-Trump and anti-Democratic content. CNN also uncovered footage from 2017 showing Sayoc at a Trump rally holding an anti-CNN sign.
