Martin Scorsese’s latest film has been shooting in Taiwan where a set accident has left one dead and two more injured.
The set for the upcoming Scorsese film Silence was getting prepared in Taiwan when a scaffold collapsed, killing a worker and injuring the two others, reported Deadline. All of those involved in the incident were Taiwanese contractors hired by the film’s producers.
The contracting film crew bears responsibility for their own health and safety, according to the Chinese Culture and Movie Center, which owns the lot Silence is going to be filmed on. Apparently, the contractor was hired to reinforce an existing structure on the lot that was deemed unsafe for use during filming.
“Sadly, during this process, the ceiling collapsed, resulting in the death of one of the contractor’s employees and injuries to two others,” Leslee Dart, a spokeswoman for the film, said in a statement.
While Scorsese is in Taiwan to shoot the film, it’s unknown if he was on set the day of the accident.
Silence, based on a 1966 novel by Japanese author Shusaku Endo, follows two Jesuit priests facing persecution in Japan while looking for their mentor during the 17th century. Liam Neeson, Andrew Garfield and Adam Driver are all starring.
Silence is slated to hit theaters sometime in 2016.
