AC/DC Confirm Reunion & New ‘Pwr Up’ Album In The Works

After a series of hints and teasers online, Australian rock band AC/DC have confirmed their return to the music scene, announcing that singer Brian Johnson, drummer Phil Rudd, and bassist Cliff Williams have rejoined the group.

The group posted a photo of themselves to Twitter, looking older but exuding youthful energy in some schoolboy outfits. The lead guitarist of the band, Angus Young, is now 65.

The return of AC/DC seemed unlikely for many years, for a host of reasons: While on tour in 2016, Johnson effectively lost his hearing. He was replaced by Guns N’ Roses singer Axl Rose for multiple dates. Rudd was also replaced during the tour after he was found guilty of drug possession and threats of violence, ultimately getting sentenced to eight months’ home detention.

The next year, guitarist Malcolm Young, Angus’ brother and leader of the group, died after a long battle with dementia. He was replaced in the band by his nephew, Stevie Young, who is also in the current lineup.

Formed in 1973, AC/DC is an icon in the world of rock music. Their influence on future rock bands cannot be overstated. With hits like “Back in Black,” “Highway to Hell,” and “You Shook Me All Night Long” they’ve solidified their place in music history. This year, the group celebrated the 40th anniversary of their biggest album, Back in Black, which sold more than 50 million copies worldwide.
