The Swedish supergroup ABBA has partnered with Universal Music and Simon Fuller to create a virtual reality experience.
The details of the project are as of yet unknown, but it will entail an “original experience… that will enable a new generation of fans to see, hear, and feel ABBA in a way previously unimagined.”
Fuller, the mastermind behind American Idol, has been investing in “developing hyper-realistic digital humans” and hopes to launch this culmination in 2018. He and ABBA are just the latest names to join the VR bandwagon, along with Björk, Boiler Room and a Live Nation/Citi concert series.
“The creativity and ideas flowing from the members of ABBA over the past few months have filled me with great excitement,” says Fuller. “We are exploring a new technological world, with virtual reality and artificial intelligence at the forefront, that will allow us to create new forms of entertainment and content we couldn’t have previously imagined.”
“We’re inspired by the limitless possibilities of what the future holds and are loving being a part of creating something new and dramatic here,” said ABBA’s Benny Andersson in a statement. It will be “a time machine that captures the essence of who we were. And are.”
Singer Frida Lyngstad chimed in as well. “Our fans around the world are always asking us to reform and so I hope this new ABBA creation will excite them as much as it excites me!”
