Aaron Taylor-Johnson took home the first Golden Globe statue for Best Supporting Actor for his work in Nocturnal Animals.

AARON TAYLOR-JOHNSON WINS BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR

Taylor-Johnson’s win comes as a surprise, as Moonlight‘s Mahershala Ali was favored to win the category. Taylor-Johnson plays a criminal psychopath in Nocturnal Minds, and many didn’t even the think the Brit would land a nomination.

“I want to thank my wife for being there with me and supporting me through this,” he said. “I mean thank you for putting up with me, Jesus, I was not very pleasant in this role. You’re my soulmate and I love you very much, I’m blessed I have four beautiful daughters, Angelica, Phoenix, Water, and Romi, I love you all very much, you have two proud parents watching tonight, so I made it, thank you.”

His wife, Sam Taylor-Johnson is an english filmmaker herself, had her directorial debut Nowhere Boy in 2009.

Nocturnal Animalis directed by Tom Ford, who is also up for Best Director.
